"In order to ensure academic success for all students, we must be forward thinking in all of our work and decisions, but remain mindful of where we are today,
and where we have been in the past."
-Rhonda Cheek-
Welcome!
I am so glad you stopped by to learn more about my campaign for
re-election to the
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education.

I am a Mecklenburg County resident since age 16, a graduate of CMS and a parent to 3 CMS alums.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and its success matter to me. And the children of Mecklenburg county are depending on us

There is so much work to do to improve academic outcomes for all students, to ensure safe schools and to make sure we are being thoughtful stewards of the taxpayers money.  Having an experienced and effective representative from District 1 is essential to getting that work done.

In the next term the board will be hiring a new superintendent, reviewing student assignment policies, and bringing a capital plan to the taxpayers in a bond.  Having a strong and experienced voice on the board, with a history of building relationships and consensus will be essential in representing the needs of north Mecklenburg and all of CMS.

“A child without education is like a bird without wings.” —Tibetan Proverb

I would like to return to the school board representing District 1, so that I can work collaboratively with my board colleagues to ensure that EVERY STUDENT gets what they need to be successful and find their wings!

Rhonda's Top Priorities

While the work of the board spans many areas, every decision we make must first answer the question, "How will this impact students?" That one question must guide our work in every aspect of governance, because our top priority is to ensure the academic success for every student. The list below includes some of my priorities, but it is certainly not a complete list of all the work that is needed to return CMS to one of the top school districts in the nation.

Setting High Expectations

Our top priority is to ensure the academic success of all students, regardless of zip code.

Improving School Safety

Allocating resources efficiently

Protecting neighborhood schools as the foundation for student assignment
